Description

Brass plaque depicting a striding Hanuman, from Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh. Such plaques were worn around the neck of itinerant mendicants or pilgrims. In his hand, Hanuman is holding the medicinal plant Sanjeevani, which he carried to cure Lakshman, who had been wounded on the field of battle. The plaque also has a multi-headed protective cobra above Hanuman’s head. On either side of the cobra on this highly detailed piece, are small parakeets.
