This is a later reproduction poster of Fritz Lang’s landmark 1927 film Metropolis. The film, a German expressionist science-fiction silent classic, was directed by Fritz Lang and written in collaboration with Thea von Harbou, based on her 1925 novel of the same name.
Metropolis is now regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. Its futuristic cityscapes, groundbreaking special effects, and exploration of themes such as class struggle and technology’s impact on humanity have left an enduring mark on cinema, art, and design. In Sight and Sound’s 2022 critics’ poll, the film was ranked 68th among the greatest films of all time, and it continues to receive widespread critical acclaim nearly a century after its release.
