Description

Extremely rare and early map of south India engraved by Henri Chatelaine, Amsterdam, 1719. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from Michael Ludgrove, art curator and former Christie's specialist. The map details “the lands of Cucan (Konkan), Canara, Malabar, Madura, and Coromandel; with remarks and a table of the principal cities of the country, as well as the trading posts that the Dutch possess there.” It is interesting to note the tigers surrounding Srirangapatna.
