Description

This is a 1970s Olivetti Lettera 25 portable typewriter with original case, made in Spain. In working order, no ribbon. The famous Olivetti brand switched their typewriter production from a metal body to a fibre body with the introduction of this Lettera 25 model, to make it rust free and light weight. The typewriter size is 13.5 x 14 x 4 inches and the box is 14 x 15 x 5 inches.
The company was founded as a typewriter manufacturer by Camillo Olivetti in 1908 in Turin, Italy. The firm was though mainly developed by his son Adriano Olivetti, whose vision led to the company's worldwide expansion and commercial success. Olivetti became famous for the meticulous attention it paid to the design of its products, through collaborations with notable architects and designers, over a nearly 60-year period starting in the late 1930s. Because of this prestige in 1952, the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) held an exhibit titled "Olivetti: Design in Industry". Another exhibit was also mounted by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1969. Many Olivetti products and archival material related to design are also held in museum collections including the MoMA design collection, the Cooper Hewitt in New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
