Description

Red Ericofon, an icon of 20th century design. The Ericofon by Ericsson, Sweden, was known as the "cobra phone" for its sleek, modern, and serpentine styling. It was designed in the late 1940s and went into production in 1956. This one is from the 1970s and is in working order.
The first phone to combine dial and handset into a single unit, the Cobra phone sits upright on the rotary dial, keeping the canter red button depressed. One has to pick up the phone to answer or dial a phone number. Examples of the cobra phone can be found in important design museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
