Description

“Doctor is this going to hurt much?” the terrorized patient asked Mariluz León, the dentist at the “Happy Teeth” clinic who, a little impatient, was waiting with a drill in her hand. “Of course it won’t, dear, you won’t feel a thing!” she answered trying to calm him down. “Listen, this is how we are going to proceed, take this tube of toothpaste in your hand and, if it hurts too much, squeeze the tube a little to calm yourself down.” The doctor started the drill and even before putting it into his mouth, the patient squeezed the tube so hard that toothpaste splattered on the ceiling and the doctor found her face covered with it as if someone had thrown a pie in her face.

  • ABOUT Guillermo Forchino

Guillermo Forchino is an Argentinian sculptor who is world renowned for his range of caricature sculptures. Forchino began experimenting with various materials to create his art in the 1980s. The research began in the city of his birth – Rosario, Argentina, and continued during his studies in art restoration and conservation at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. During that time, he discovered and mastered many classic techniques and materials. After completing his studies in Paris, Guillermo returned to Argentina, where he directed the Juan B. Castagnino atelier of art restoration for the Museum of Beaux-Arts in Rosario.

From the end of the 1980s, Forchino used polyresins to create figurines and scenes that resembled the world of comic strip and cartoon characters. He would depict unusual and humorous subjects, typically in a vehicle, giving them a unique and distinct character. Some examples include a family leaving on vacation in an overloaded car with flat tires, or a tired old American pick-up truck from the 1950’s with equally tired passengers. He also created other modes of transportation such as boats, planes, and motorcycles. In later years, Forchino developed a line of individuals in sports and a variety of professions that was named the “Professionals Series”. His brilliant creations have found a large collector audience worldwide.

In 2003, a collaboration between Guillermo Forchino and VMM resulted in the worldwide introduction of replicas of his work. The reproductions are fully handmade and hand painted, just like the originals, under the close supervision of Forchino himself. Some of the sculptures are reproduced in the same size as the original created by Forchino, while others are reduced in size to 50% or 75% of the original. Through this initiative, Forchino’s sculptures are available to collectors around the world in the form of limited edition series. Each piece is identified by a stamped signature and a unique number at the bottom.  A numbered certificate of authenticity is also provided with the brilliantly detailed, laughter evoking caricature sculptures.

Guillermo Forchino lives and works in Paris. His workshop is a few steps away from the world famous Père Lachaise cemetery.
