Description
This is a rare, Deccan, cast bronze, zoomorphic peacock incense stick stand. The incense holder sits at the top of the splayed rigged tail. Similar plumage runs from the bird’s head down its neck. Around its neck are cast stylised feather designs and the bird stands on a square stepped plinth. Comparable examples can be found in the Met Museum, the British Museum and in Mark Zebrowski's "Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India", cat.87, p.94, (also Deccan, though this example is an incense burner rather than a incense stick holder).
