  • ABOUT Tsering Negi

    Born in 1987, Tsering Negi hails from Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. He completed his BFA in Graphics from Govt. College of Art, Chandigarh in 2010 and his MFA in Graphics from Kala Bhavana, Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan in 2012. He currently resides between New Delhi and Solan.
    Through his prints, Tsering celebrates the quiet resilience of ordinary lives, revealing how everyday experiences embody extraordinary stories of survival, endurance and courage. His work explores the struggles that shape individual lives, transforming seemingly simple narratives into profound reflections on human existence.
    The portraits in this series are drawn from people Tsering has encountered in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. Their faces convey dignity, resilience, and the wisdom that comes with lived experience. Each figure is situated within a carefully considered environment, where natural elements become extensions of personal identity, reflecting the intimate relationship between people and the landscapes they inhabit.
    The confluence of roots, place, and evolving identity forms a recurring thread throughout Tsering's practice. Just as landscapes are composed of multiple interconnected layers, human existence is shaped by a complex web of relationships and memories. His portraits suggest that individuals are inseparable from the environments that nurture and define them.
    Central to this body of work is a holistic understanding of existence, where human life and nature continually mirror one another. Motifs such as cacti and flowers symbolize the dualities of struggle and hope, hardship and renewal, ultimately pointing towards the search for balance. Each composition becomes a visual narrative that reflects the unique circumstances, emotional landscapes, and inner strength of its subject.
    By uncovering the extraordinary within the everyday, Tsering’s prints invite viewers to reflect on the universal human desire for belonging, balance, and survival amidst the complexities of contemporary life.
