Description

This work revolves around one simple yet powerful gesture—a smile. It doesn’t require words, but it carries a world of emotion, strength, and connection. A smile can mask pain, or it can reflect a moment of pure joy.
This work serves as a reminder that a smile—even the smallest one—has the power to brighten even the darkest of days. It is a quiet encouragement to choose joy, even in the face of difficulty. Smiling doesn’t mean everything is perfect—it means you're choosing hope. When words fall short, a smile speaks for the heart.
This set of 15 can be displayed as per personal preferences. The dimensions are 34 x 34 inches as per the cluster display shown by us.

  • ABOUT Ashu Gupta

Ashu Gupta is a contemporary artist whose practice is an exercise in introspection. A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Design in Raipur, Ashu also holds a certificate from London’s Royal College of Art Contemporary Art Summer School. She developed her artistic practice through experimentation with pattern making, allowing intricate motifs to slowly emerge as larger forms. Working predominantly with pen and ink, Ashu uses hundreds of thousands of repeating patterns and stippling in her work. In recent times, she has also incorporated experiments with other techniques such as paper piercing and thread work, in her practice. Ashu’s deeply layered, mostly monochromatic compositions offer the possibility of a new interpretation with every glance. Her subjects are always emphasized, with nothing to distract from the beauty of her stunning pieces.

With an artistic style that is both distinct and confident, Ashu’s works have been collected by seasoned art collectors, in what are still the early years of her professional journey. Ashu has participated in several group exhibitions across India, and held solo exhibitions at Gallery Sublime, Bangalore in 2017 and at Artisera in August 2020 and August 2022. She has been nominated for the prestigious Lalit Kala Academy Awards (2016-17 and 2017-18) and the 2017 Bombay Art Society Awards. She was part of Madras Art Weekend 2024. The artist lives and works in Bangalore.
