Description

In Hinduism, Nandi is the name of the bull who serves as the mount (Vahana) and gatekeeper of Lord Shiva and Parvati. All over India, temples dedicated to Shiva generally have a seated Nandi displayed at the entrance.
Made of copper using the repoussé technique, which involves hammering the material against a mold to give it a raised appearance and then carving details on the surface by hand, this old Nandi is a treasured piece from North Karnataka or Maharashtra.
