In Hinduism, Nandi is the name of the bull who serves as the mount and gatekeeper of Lord Shiva and Parvati. All over India, temples dedicated to Shiva generally have a seated Nandi displayed at the entrance. Made of wood, this life-sized head of Nandi is exquisitely crafted, with stunning details. A unique collectible from Tamil Nadu, it would have been part of a vahana (vehicle) of Lord Shiva. Some parts of the chain around the bull’s head are missing and the ears have been repaired at some point, but otherwise the piece is in good condition.
