Background History:
“Major Campbell's account of his hunting expeditions in India was first published in the pages of the London "New Monthly Magazine," and is a "veritable romance of sporting, in the lands which are the birth place of the most gorgeous, the most fascinating of all romances - the seat of a yet un-extinguished, barbarous and barbaric civilization, older it is probable than the Pyramids, coeval, at least, with the winged bulls and lions, the eagle-headed gods, and sensuous worship of disinterred Nineveh." The author wrote with fictional characters but based on his and his brother's hunting experiences.
Condition:
Good condition. One plate has foxing. Original green cloth, gilt vignette has some rubbing and wear to spine. Inscription as gift on first page from 1852. Pages are a little loose from cover.

This is the second edition of ‘The Old Forest Ranger or Wild Sports of India on the Neilgherry (Nilgiris) Hills, in the jungles, and on the plains.’ By Captain Walter Campbell. Published in London by Jeremiah How, 1845. It contains a lithographed title and 7 sepia lithographed views.
