  • ABOUT Vijay Bagodi

    Vijay Bagodi, born in Gulbarga, Karnataka in 1959, studied Painting and Printmaking (Graphic Arts) at M.S. University, Baroda. He was awarded the National Award for his print in the 40th National Exhibition of Contemporary Art, 1997 and his work was awarded in the 71st AIFACS Annual Art Exhibition of Graphic Arts, 2000. In 2001, he got an ‘Honourable Mention’ certificate Award for Printmaking in the 5th Bharat Bhavan International Biennale of Print. 
    Vijay’s early works focused on intimate and personal spaces, exploring human emotions like love, desire, longing, and disappointment. Later, his focus shifted toward socio-political commentary, and he began depicting broader themes of societal violence, inequality, deprivation, and natural or man-made disasters in his prints.
    Besides eight one-man shows in different places, he has participated in several art camps, workshops, and major national and international-level exhibitions, such as Art Asia 2025 Korea-India Printmaking Exhibition, Polish-Indian exhibition “Sacred Art Space” in Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath Bangalore, Triennale Mondiale De L’estampe ALPES, France, Guanlan International Print Biennial, Beijing International Art Biennale, XI Triennale India in New Delhi. 
    Vijay Bagodi retired as the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Head of Department of Graphic Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in June 2021. The artist currently lives and works in Vadodara.
