  • ABOUT Venugopal V G

Born in 1976 in Valakkunja, Kerala, Venugopal V G is a multi-disciplinary visual artist and art educator. He has a BFA in Painting from Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts, Mysore (1998) and MFA in Printmaking from Chitrakala Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore (2000). His art practice includes drawing, painting, printmaking, installations and video art.
Venugopal’s practice has served as a critical engagement with the lived realities of our time and place. Navigating the intersection of personal observation and broader socio-political shifts, his work emerges from an ongoing internal dialogue questioning changing human relationships, the anxieties of displacement, and the struggle to forge identity within a rapidly transforming world.
Responding to these changes, he examines how external transformations leave deep physical and emotional imprints on personal sanctuaries. As the boundary between outer reality and inner consciousness becomes increasingly fragile, he captures this threshold through figures and spaces suspended between contemporary dilemmas and psychological uncertainty. Rather than offering literal representations, he constructs a fictitious world derived from an interpretation of everyday reality.
Within this realm, figuration serves as both anchor and vessel. Human figures, quiet structures, and poetic objects become symbols that nurture and safeguard fragile emotions. Through metaphor, he makes visible what is often felt but seldom seen — the weight of carrying one's past through uncertain terrain, the search for sanctuary, and the resilience required to navigate loss and transition. Through explorations of texture, spatial tension, and layering, Venugopal creates spaces for quiet contemplation, inviting viewers to reflect on their relationships with space, time, and changing human sensibilities.
Venugopal has held four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions across India. He is a recipient of prestigious awards and has taught in institutions such as Jain University and R.V. University. The artist lives and works in Bangalore.
