Born in 1939 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Manu Parekh completed his Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1962. A member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Calcutta, Parekh’s works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art (New Delhi) the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, (Mumbai), the Lalit Kala Akademi (New Delhi), Punjab University Museum (Chandigarh) and in many private collections in India and abroad.
His paintings employ visual drama to explore human interaction with nature, and the city of Banaras plays an integral role in his work. In 1972, he was awarded the President of India's Silver Plaque and in 1982, he received the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. In 1992, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri. He lives and works in New Delhi.
