The iconic Dancing Girl sculpture from Mohenjo-Daro has captured the imagination of art connoisseurs for centuries. One of the earliest examples of the extraordinarily complex lost wax method of bronze casting, the sculpture has inspired artists to work with the incredibly challenging yet extremely rewarding material. Stories in Bronze is a showcase of exquisite sculptures by 6 eminent Bengal artists, who have won acclaim for their mastery of the medium both in India and internationally. Their works have found place in many prestigious private and public collections. The 6 artists are Biman Bihari Das, Bipin Goswami, Chandan Roy, Shankar Ghosh, Tapas Sarkar and Tarak Garai.
Biman Bihari Das is a Padma Shri awardee with more than 40 solo exhibitions to his credit. Bipin Goswami held a fascination with human figures, and was a master of surface, contour, texture and perspective. Chandan Roy, a member of the prestigious Calcutta Sculptors group, is known for his diverse depictions of human figures. Shankar Ghosh exhibits superior technical skill and is known for works that exude an almost ethereal quality. Tapas Sarkar is a recipient of several awards and inspired by mythology and Kalighat paintings. Tarak Garai, who has his own foundry, finds himself attracted to the deep relationship between tribal women and their children. Each of these brilliant sculptors have found their unique artistic expression in bronze.
