Ramesh Gorjala

Artisera

Born into a family of weavers in Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh in 1979, Ramesh Gorjala studied art at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. One of the most promising artists from the region, Gorjala takes inspiration from mythology, but gives the paintings his own interpretation. Using Kalamkari techniques, an ancient Indian art that Srikalahasti is renowned for, Gorjala portrays Indian Gods and Goddesses, with rich gold, red and green colours. With exquisite attention to detail and intricate designs, his paintings imbibe a traditional and spiritual feel. With a number of group and solo shows all over India and abroad, Gorjala’s works have been much appreciated. In 2000, he won the Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary Memorial Award from V.T.I, Chennai, and was awarded the 2002 State Award from the Andhra Pradesh Crafts Council.
