Kishan Uikey
Kishan Uikey is a Gond artist whose practice departs from conventional narrative approaches within the tradition. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he uses only the brush — eschewing pen work — to build his compositions through controlled, repetitive mark-making. Rather than relying on inherited “signature” motifs, Kishan Uikey develops his own patterns, allowing each work to evolve organically. His paintings focus on landscapes, forests, animals, and birds, emphasising observation and form over storytelling. Rooted in the ecology of Madhya Pradesh, his work reflects a shift within Gond painting toward a more individual and process-driven visual language.
