Description

This is a Deccan brass oil lamp finial in the form of Hamsa from Karnataka/Andhra Pradesh. The bird is beautifully engraved with feathers on the body and tail. Detailing also includes two neck ornaments. Hamsa, which is possibly a swan, is revered by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. It is seen as a symbol of purity, detachment and divine knowledge. Hamsa symbolises the highest spiritual accomplishment as it swims in water, walks on earth and flies in the sky.
