Born in Junagadh, Gujarat, in 1942, Vrindavan Solanki is a prolific Indian artist, recognized internationally for his exceptional body of work. Solanki completed his Diploma in Painting and Post Diploma in Graphics at M.S. University, Baroda, in 1980 and 1982, respectively.
Growing up, Solanki was always drawn to art and fascinated by nature and the people of his village. Employing a clever play of light and shadows, Solanki portrays the men and women of Gujarat going about their everyday village life, in his stunning artworks. Paying great attention to the elaborate traditional attires donned by the figures and omitting the details of their faces, Solanki’s works have a striking, surreal quality.
Vrindavan Solanki was a visiting faculty at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, from 1982-87 and a member of the Lalit Kala Academy, Gujarat, from 1987-90. He has had his work displayed in numerous solo shows and group exhibitions, in India as well as abroad. His solo shows include those held at the Jehangir Art Gallery (1969, 1971, 1972, 1989 and 1992) and the Taj Art Gallery (1981) in Mumbai, and the Continental Hotel Curepipe (1991) in Mauritius. His works have also been displayed as part of group shows at the Academy of Fine Arts (1970) in Calcutta, Manhattan Graphics Centre (2004) in New York, and Art Trend Galleria (2004) in Hong Kong. The artist lives and works in Ahmedabad.Size: | 11.5 x 11.5 inches |
