  • ABOUT Nishant Dange

Nishant Dange’s charcoal and acrylic paintings are an ode to the ethereal female form in all its natural beauty and elegance. Born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Nishant completed his Bachelor’s in Fine Art from the Government Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur, in 2004. A gold medallist of the institute, Dange then worked as a freelance artist with Grey Worldwide and Bright Spark.

Nishant's bold and discerning human figures fuse with intricate butterflies and birds, as if in an attempt to lay bare the underlying fabric of our unified being with nature. While the women in Dange’s artworks don a distinct air of radiance and mystique, his depiction of hair, for instance, draws attention to the fine detailing and meticulous finishing in his work. Using dark charcoal, the artist adds drama to the moment, striking a contrast with bold primary colours. Dange enjoys the idea of being able to create beauty with just a piece of charcoal, and the medium’s seamlessness lends a photographic and dream-like quality to his paintings.

In 2007, Nishant Dange was conferred with the Bombay Art Society Award, Mumbai, the State Art Exhibition Award, Mumbai, and the Art Society of India Award, Mumbai. The artist has had his works showcased in solo shows across various Indian cities. He has also participated in several group exhibitions including those held by the Bombay Art Society, Mumbai, in 2007; the Art Society of India, Mumbai, in 2007; the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 2006; the Gallery Artzest, Dubai, in 2013; and Gallery C2A, Singapore, in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
