Description

Michelangelo had several models of St. Peters Dome during the time he worked on it. Discovered in an attic and newly restored, these models are now a main attraction at the Vatican Museum. Architects, over the centuries, have made 3D models of these architectural marvels to understand dimensional perspectives. Many renowned architects also collected models, not only for their exquisite workmanship but also for their value as decor. This is a classic example of an early stair model, finished in subtle shades of light and dark honey using cherry and birch wood. Sinuous curves and arches add a fluid touch to this dramatic piece.
