  • ABOUT S.G. Vasudev

Born in 1941 in Mysore, Karnataka, S.G. Vasudev is an acclaimed painter who received recognition very early in life. At the time of completing his education in Government College of Art, Madras, he was awarded the National Award from All India Lalit Kala Akademi in 1967. A founding member of the Cholamandal Artist’s Village in Chennai, S.G. Vasudev lived and worked there till 1988. He has spent a considerable part of his career trying to provide a haven for artists to achieve their creative pursuits.

Over the course of his career, S.G. Vasudev has worked across different mediums, including drawing, painting, relief and tapestry. He became well-known for his “Vriksha” (Tree of Life) series, and is widely considered one of Karnataka’s most prominent artists.

S.G. Vasudev’s artistic journey has been characterised by constant change, however there remains a consistency across his varied collections. A realist and a romantic, a dreamer and a pragmatist, a creator and a spectator, the duality of human nature always drew S.G. Vasudev’s focus.
