Priyoum Talukdar

Born in 1984, Priyoum Talukdar is an independent printmaker from Assam whose practice explores the intersections of nature, cultural memory, spirituality, and contemporary society. He completed his MFA in Printmaking with a first-class position from IKSV, Khairagarh in 2010, and he is a recipient of the Lalit Kala Akademi Research Scholarship and the Junior Research Fellowship in Graphic Art (Printmaking).
Working primarily in the traditional medium of woodcut, Priyoum is committed to preserving the discipline and material integrity of hand-crafted printmaking. The physical process of carving and printing forms an integral part of his artistic language, through which he reinterprets traditional techniques within a contemporary visual framework.
Nature is the foundation of his visual imagination. Drawing upon its rhythms and quietude, Priyoum creates surreal compositions that reflect on human emotions, inner conflict, and the search for harmony in an increasingly fragmented world. His works invite viewers into contemplative spaces where personal experience intersects with broader social realities.
A significant strand of Priyoum's practice is rooted in the socio-cultural history of Assam. His long-term research into the legacy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev (a 15th century Assamese polymath and social-religious reformer) and Assam's rich artistic and spiritual traditions informs a body of work that brings together folk and tribal visual cultures with contemporary concerns. Through extensive field research and archival study, he reinterprets cultural inheritance for the present. Priyoum’s prints create a dialogue between past and present, encouraging reflection on identity, coexistence, and the enduring relevance of cultural memory in shaping contemporary life.
Priyoum has participated in several group exhibitions in India and internationally. His works are part of international collections in Romania, Ukraine, China, Turkey and Russia. Within India, his work can be found in prestigious collections such as NGMA New Delhi, and Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centres in Chennai, Lucknow and Odisha.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0849/4704/files/3.1_b69d2ef5-6a0e-4e15-abdb-32df0bc2c970.jpg?v=1786521104
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0849/4704/files/2.1_05627d92-39aa-4b43-ae06-46080444fc97.jpg?v=1786521940
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0849/4704/files/1.1_5700904e-f513-440b-b840-a0a71f854451.jpg?v=1786522256
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0849/4704/files/4.1_ae7140ca-22c9-4d8d-b40a-f81c12920fc5.jpg?v=1786522520
