Description

Bastar is a region in Chhattisgarh, India, that is known for its tribal arts and crafts. One of the most reputed crafts that the region is world-renowned for, is Dhokra, a form of metal casting done using the lost wax process.

This sculpture of Nandi, the divine bull that is Lord Shiva’s mount or Vahana, has been made using the Dhokra technique, in the Bastar region. Exquisite in its intricacy, the piece features elaborate openwork on the body, and a stylized head and face.
