Mandira Ravindranath

Artist Profile

New Delhi based artist Mandira Ravindranath’s incredibly detailed artworks are made up of doodles and minuscule patterns, executed with mindboggling perfection. Although she is professionally trained in Fashion Design, Mandira has always been deeply interested in illustration and line drawing. After working in the Indian fashion industry for nearly a decade, of which 7 years were spent working with acclaimed designer Tarun Tahiliani, Mandira entered the art world, having her first independent solo exhibition at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi in October 2014, and a second one in October 2017 at the Shridharani Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam in Delhi.

Working mostly with pen and ink on paper as her medium, Mandira creates dizzying, elaborate worlds in black on white, which she sometimes accents with acrylic colours, applied in thick, textured layers, within geometric and abstract forms. Although she has always been a city-dweller, her inspiration comes mostly from nature and nature-derived elements.
