Artist Profile
Dilip Chobisa is a contemporary Indian artist based in Vadodara, Gujarat. Born in 1978, he graduated from the prestigious Faculty of Fine Arts at the MS University of Baroda, with a B.V.A and an M.V.A in Sculpture.
Dilip Chobisa’s subtle toned artworks, executed mostly in graphite, depict constructed spaces with a fantastical touch. Combining an excellent knowledge of light and drawing, Chobisa conjures images that are reminiscent of artistic set-design and black-and-white photography. Dilip Chobisa’s spaces are quiet and intriguing, always with gateways and windows through which the audience is invited to peep in and explore his realms. His artworks are an exploration of a person’s inner and outer worlds, where sometimes, surreal elements pop up in otherwise normal settings.
Dilip Chobisa’s work has been part of several group exhibitions in India and abroad. He has also had solo shows at the Anant Art Gallery and has had booths at the India Art Fair 2012 and Art Dubai in 2015. A recipient of the Harmony Art Foundation Emerging Artist award of the Year, 2008, his works are part of several collections including those of the Devi Art Foundation, Harmony Art Foundation, Uttrayan Foundation, Patrons of Tel Aviv Museum and several private and public museums.
