Description

Yoyo Ciliberti’s family doctor had advised him to do a little exercise because his sedentary lifestyle was going to cause him problems. After discarding rugby because he lacked size, boxing because he lacked courage and basketball due to height issues, Yoyo looked for a sport he could practice while sitting down. Cycling seemed like the ideal activity. He bought a fixie with coaster brakes, those which you back pedal to brake, and all its corresponding accessories. “I must start with something that tests my fitness”, he said to himself firmly convinced. He climbed up the top of the highest street in the village; the one paved with cobblestones, and launched himself down the hill. After riding 10 meters, he found out that braking with his legs was more complicated than he had thought. The 400 meters to the bottom were the longest of his life. For the next two months, he had to sit gently on a fluffy feather cushion. He sold his bicycle and now plays chess while standing up.
  • ABOUT Guillermo Forchino

Guillermo Forchino is an Argentinian sculptor who is world renowned for his range of caricature sculptures. Forchino began experimenting with various materials to create his art in the 1980s. The research began in the city of his birth – Rosario, Argentina, and continued during his studies in art restoration and conservation at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. During that time, he discovered and mastered many classic techniques and materials. After completing his studies in Paris, Guillermo returned to Argentina, where he directed the Juan B. Castagnino atelier of art restoration for the Museum of Beaux-Arts in Rosario.

From the end of the 1980s, Forchino used polyresins to create figurines and scenes that resembled the world of comic strip and cartoon characters. He would depict unusual and humorous subjects, typically in a vehicle, giving them a unique and distinct character. Some examples include a family leaving on vacation in an overloaded car with flat tires, or a tired old American pick-up truck from the 1950’s with equally tired passengers. He also created other modes of transportation such as boats, planes, and motorcycles. In later years, Forchino developed a line of individuals in sports and a variety of professions that was named the “Professionals Series”. His brilliant creations have found a large collector audience worldwide.

In 2003, a collaboration between Guillermo Forchino and VMM resulted in the worldwide introduction of replicas of his work. The reproductions are fully handmade and hand painted, just like the originals, under the close supervision of Forchino himself. Some of the sculptures are reproduced in the same size as the original created by Forchino, while others are reduced in size to 50% or 75% of the original. Through this initiative, Forchino’s sculptures are available to collectors around the world in the form of limited edition series. Each piece is identified by a stamped signature and a unique number at the bottom.  A numbered certificate of authenticity is also provided with the brilliantly detailed, laughter evoking caricature sculptures.

Guillermo Forchino lives and works in Paris. His workshop is a few steps away from the world famous Père Lachaise cemetery.
