Description

This unique 2-piece teakwood Victorian Cabinet-on-stand is of delicate proportions. The flared leg stand holds two open shelves and side panels with minimal fretwork. Above this sits a panelled door cabinet with two solid wood shelves. It is ideal for storing toiletries or be used as a kitchen rack storage. This piece is reproduced in teakwood and finished with matte melamine polish or natural polish, with a protective coat of clear wax. The panels open with a glass/brass/ceramic knob and the shutter has a concealed latch for proper sealing.

Historical Context:

Cabinets-on-stand, similar to the front opening Vargueno, were first made in the 16th century. Towards the late 17th century and all the way up to the 18th century, they were made in large numbers in Europe for the elite. For the privileged, it was the most sought-after piece of luxury furniture after the grand bed.
