ABOUT THE COLLECTION
Bui Huu Hung, born in 1957, is an accomplished Vietnamese artist who works primarily with lacquer. Lacquer paintings originated in Vietnam, and are made using an extremely complex procedure that ensures that the colour stays on for years.
Born in the capital city of Hanoi, Hung is a graduate of the prestigious Hanoi Fine Arts University. He was one of Vietnam’s rare artists to be internationally recognized even before Vietnam opened its economy formally in the 1990s. Since 1996, Hung is a member of the International Association of Lacquer Painters.
Hung has had several solo and group shows in Vietnam and around the world, including in Singapore, Hong Kong, Miami, London, Bulgaria, Dubai, Poland, Tokyo, Norway and Rome. Hung’s works are part of various Museum collections such as the Singapore Arts Museum, Museum of Sydney, Australia and Eastern Fine Arts Museum USSR. Bui Huu Hung’s works are also displayed at corporate collections at the Standard Chartered Bank, Hong Kong, and the Vietnamese Embassies in London and Brussels.
